Viva la musica

Something I wrote a few years ago. It's a reflection on punk rock, or what punk is to me . . .

It's not just about identifying with a song, it's about turning those words into actions, those rants into reality. It's about shedding the skin of a sheltered, structured lifestyle and living according to truth--which is what? It is based on unadulterated human emotion. It is from the inside out, not the outside seeping in. It's letting your intuition take over you inhibition, living on gut reactions that recognize right from wrong as dictates of human conscience, not societal mandates and norms. It is not ascribing to a set system of beliefs, it's setting your OWN system. Punk is not nodding your head, it's shaking your fist. It's kicking down the door. It's stomping on the temple of tradition, irreverencing the idealized social order.

To sum up, I defer to the great Greg Graffin (of Bad Religion):

"It is the gift of being human to be able to challenge and confront those tenets [that dictate how to behave] and share new ways to evoke originality from others."
