Jake's List of Most Over Rated Bands
The blog is boring lately so here is my list of over-rated bands. In no particular order.
The Rolling Stones - Does anyone say these guys are good anymore? The only thing they have going for them is that they are still around. That means you should stop. They were good just not anymore.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - What are you singing about?
NOFX - I know, I know, It doesnt mean I don't like them, its just so stereotypical that if you think your a punk you have to be mr. hardcore NOFX. Newsflash all their cd's sound the same. Besides I heard they suck live.
Interpol - Sorry Scott, I know these guys aren't huge but all their songs are the same chords with the same melody and same rhythm.
Any hip hop band
Anyone on American Idol - Guess what if you were good you wouldn't need a show

Spot on! Spot on! Cheerio to everything you spake. I don't understand the "greatness" of those bands. I do like some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers despite the vague, rapid-fire lyrics, but they're not Legends to me. I also haven't listened to enough of interpol to know them, but the rest I agree with. To ME Rolling Stones = watered down Zeppelin, and NOFX = "We spend more time on our lyrics than the music." Oh well though. I like Nelly Furtado.
Im not saying Interpol isnt good or talenteed. Ive just seen a couple places where it says they are "breakthrough" and "the next big thing". They have grown on me a little and I do love the song evil. Im just saying I don't think they are worth the hype.
Katharine McPhee is hot.
Sam, I have to disagree with you. The Rolling Stones shouldn't be compared to Zeppelin.
Maybe they shouldn't be compared. I change my mind all the time because things grow on me. I don't really know too much of the Stones. Not because I don't want to, it's just that most of the Stones songs to me are forgettable. Beyond "Satisfaction..." "House of the Rising Sun" and "Start Me Up" I can't remember hardly one Rolling Stone song. For me at least, I don't know what's the big deal. If I were writing songs for fourty years, I think I could come up with atleast 5 hits. Maybe I should give them another try. I'm up for that.

Jer you suck. The Cure rocks. And I LOVE the Cure.. dont love Interpol. Katherine McPhee is hot. I'd go lesbo for her, and her voice..
I think that any band should definitely refine it's lyrics, but when a band focuses MORE on their lyrics than on the music then they are not a band for me. The focus of music should be just that. Obviously this is my own subjective opinion, and there's no debating that NOFX has well-stated lyrics and poignant observations, but to me what Jake says has merit.
