Three Good Reasons

I'm pretty hard on the Bush administration and politicians in general. But the other night my dad made a comment that got me going. He said he's glad that Bush has two more years in office, because by then people will realize what a good guy he is. I then challenged him to give me three good reasons. For one, he believes this country is more safe because we haven't had any more incidents like 9/11. I say that this has nothing to do with actual actions performed by the administration, because poll after poll indicates that the countries around the globe believe that the world is actually a more dangerous place, saying that the United States poses a bigger threat than Iran.

He then said that it was good to get Saddam Hussein out of power, which I don't disagree with. But then he said that it was recently discovered that Saddam DID bankroll Al Qaida. Can someone back up this evidence? I read the news across the entire spectrum religiously (because hey, what else have I got to do all day?) and I've never heard of this. Is this some Fox News machination, or the truth?

He didn't mention a third point. I didn't bother to rebut (you don't get anywhere with this guy). But in my mind, the economy is in the toilet not the least because military spending is at an all-time high, the president has gone over the heads of congress and the American people by going to war without congressional consent, conducting illegal wiretaps without apology, selling out social security, aiding the richest 1% with tax cuts (that save them an estimated $470,000 per year while the average citizen saves only about $10 per year) . . . I could go on and on. But the thing that really gets my goat is when Bush said that he was called of God. Since when did God call a man who authorizes the use of torture on another human being?

So now I put it to those of you on the other side of the fence. Am I wrong? Am I looking at this too negatively? What are the positives in Bush's political career? I ask you, give me three reasons.

To answer your questions from my point of view... No, you're not wrong, in fact you are mostly right. Yes, you are looking at it too negatively. And third, everyday I think people are finding it harder to find good things about his presidency. I don't think Bush has had a great political career. Besides directing the country through 9/11 well, he hasn't made much of a case for himself. Just an opinion.
