I agree with both of the above comments. One thing I would like to add: How much is "expected" from a spouse can depend on how much they are in the house. This is why I could feel comfortable doing MOST of the housework if Amber worked all day, and I didn't. This would need to be talked about before hand. It's not a macho/feminist thing for me. If we are both working, then when we get home we should both share equally the burden of household work. Now if one spouse likes it done a certain way, then sometimes that means they should do that thing.
Whenever my certain someone feels like she's doing to much I always quote 7 Brides for 7 Brothers "You don't want a wife you want cookin, cleanin washer woman" and I proptly tell her that I'm going to the cabin for the winter :P

The Man of the house has the responsibilities that he and his wife have agreed upon.
The Woman of the house has the responsibilities that she and her husband have agreed upon.
Beyond that, I think that you decide what you want your life to be - and then you go make your life that way.
