Two-Way Street

In response to Pops post on Pride...

Wow! Now, here's a soapbox for me...
Pride goes both ways!!! I can't tell you how many times I've been labeled for having "well-to-do" parents!!! ... And bless thier hearts, they get labeled all the time... For some reason if you have money, you are evil, prideful, and obviously arrogant... My parents are the most unselfish, down to earth people I know.... (ask Pops).

Conversation usually goes something like this ...

"She's probably never had to go without or learned how to work (I've worked since I was 14 years old and had four differnt jobs before graduating high school... and as far as going without... is there a rule that says you have to "go without" in order to be a more well-rounded person... that makes sense "let's have our kids go without food for a month... it'll make them better people")"...

"I wonder what kind of car she got to drive in high school (an '85 Mitsubishi Mirage... it was by NO MEANS the prettiest thing to look at... And I paid insurance and gas as long as I drove it)...

"Wow, look at her parents house... what a bunch of show-off's (first of all, shame on you for thinking that, and second thier house is not for them, it was built specifically for thier children and grandchildren... they have an open-door policy for whoever wants to stay there).

I used to get mad a Pops for being so excited about their house, among other things... I stopped doing that because I'm not ashamed... I have nothing to be ashamed of. I am so proud of my parents and am grateful for all their hard work so that we wouldn't have "to go without."

I think if a man is hard working enough and driven enough to make lots of money more power to him!!! I am sure alot of hard work and stress went into everything he owns and he deserves it. He must be a smart motivated man. People are just jealous. I think if you are smart enough and hard working enough to be able to afford nice things, than why not enjoy it. You cant take your money with you. And about the whole go without theory.. are we supposed to provide for our children so they have what they need and dont go without?

I just want to ask one thing. Is it prideful to get a reward for hard work in this life? My Father worked his whole life in a shat industry. He now has a lovely house, and can afford some of the nicer things in life. Is that pride? Nothing can match a attitude of hard work, or the reward it comes with. We as offspring of our parents should learn from their examples. Work hard and the rest will come. Just be patient, and you too can give your kids a better life.
