9/11 ABC Drama

I just finished watching the ABC docu-drama on the Path to 9/11. It was much better than I thought it would be. It was very straight-forward, besides some dramatic elements. It was heartbreaking, and incredibly upsetting to see how many times we could have prevented 9/11 before it happened. It made me so frustrated. I don't think 9/11 is the answer for all our problems, but I get frustrated that people think it's in the past and should stay there. It was one of THE defining moment of our generation, much like Hiroshima or Pearl Harbor, and the Moon Landing. It is NEVER in the past.

I get angry when I see how many people bag the government for tighter security, raising the threat level, or for racial profiling. You know NOTHING about securing our country, so either become educated, or shut up. What a colossal failure we were in securing our country before 9/11! Just watching how the bureacracy, red-tape, and civil liberties kept us from killing Bin Laden 3 or 4 times before 9/11 made me angry. I know I just watched a 'drama' of the events, but it was based on the 9/11 commission's findings, a bipartisan panel that has written the definitive authority on everything leading up to it. What a HUGE, FREAKING FAILURE!

Listen to my phone calls, search my computer, keep me in line at the airport longer, I don't care! I have nothing to hide. I will never forget how it felt and feels to have my country victimized. This show awoke those feelings I felt 5 years ago, and I will do anything to avoid another 9/11. We have stopped 5 different terrorist attempts that were within days of being carried out on US soil, according to the FBI. We can't stop being vigilant.

At the end of the show they flashed a few graphics on the screen about the panel's findings 5 years after 9/11. In grading our progress in different areas of prevention they gave out 5 F's, 12 D's, and 1 A.

"If we find ouselves in this position again in the future, can we look to anyone else for an excuse?"-9/11 commission.

And once again, before you dismiss these ramblings for right-wing propaganda, or lump my words with Toby Keith, remember, I don't agree with blind patriotism and I'm not republican.

This is just my feeelings against yours Sam so I cant say who is right. I just think you have to look at where it is coming from. ABC's point in making a movie like that is entertainment and although they say it is based on the 9/11 reports I've read many places where it is conflicited. And raising threat levels and racial profiling might sound useful, you could also easily say they are abused. Isn't it funny how threat levels rose before the electiion or they rise when the presidents approval goes down? Seriously, what good is a threat level anyways. Im sorry I had to take the most offense to this sentence "civil liberties kept us from killing Bin Laden 3 or 4 times" What???? Damn civil liberties keep us from killing people. And you're right you're not a republican. Violating civil liberties and racial profiling sound more like fascist ideas to me.
I don't think we should forget 9/11 but what good does a sticker on your car saying "we will never forget" accomplish? Seeing how the country came together after 9/11 and then seeing how that pride and unity was taken advantage of and manipulated into a war with Iraq makes me want to forget 9/11.

I appreciate your feedback. I ALWAYS respect your opinion as well. You definitely think about things, and that gets me thinking too. I like.
'A few steps away' to me seems like exaggeration. Checking out someone who's from a 'suspect' country is MUCH different than killing them. I would call that a fantastical leap, not a slippery slope. I guess it comes down to educated faith in the government, instead of outright suspicion.
'Probable cause' is a beautiful thing. If I have visited Afghanistan, have ties to militant islamic groups, AND have been getting kicked out of various flight training schools cuz all I want to know is how to get into a cockpit and steer (one of the highjackers before 9/11) you MUST search my laptop for evidence. The government's hands were tied, and 9/11 was the result. If I said I was going to blow something up on this blog, then they MUST check it out if it's a legitimate threat.

Yes Jake, civil liberties played a part in us not killing Bin Laden. We could not investigate the threat he posed thoroughly because of someone's interpretation of a terrorists civil liberties and bureaucratic red tape, so when the chance came, the Clinton Administration backed down from the opportunity. I just say Clinton because at that time, it was Clinton. Bush sucked it up too. I don't defend Bush, nor Clinton.

As for the whole extension into the Iraq war, and the world hating us because of this, and the Great Satan of this world being Bush and his administration (Exaggeration), I agree with you, except that the world hated americans long before this. It's just made it worse.

Bush, Clinton it doesn't matter. You can't go around killing people with no evidence. I dont think thats a bad thing

Sam I agree with you about the laptop thing. From what I have read it is pretty messed up that we could not look into that. I just didn't agree with your broad sentences about civil liberties and profiling.
I don't want to change the subject but I really don't think that fighting a war with terrorists will work. Bush says we fight the war over there so we don't have to fight it here. What does that mean about Iragi people. He doesn't care how many of them die? We need better security to prevent attacks but I don't think fighting terrorists will prevent attacks. Since 9/11 America has gotten stronger and I bet the terrorists have gotten stronger. I think Iraq and Afghanistan were planned to allow an attack on Iran. We will soon be at war with Iran.
I know we can never stop terrorists but it easy to blame American when you have nothing. It is a war of my God is better than your God. I sound like a hippie, but if you want to stop terrorism help change the thinking of people in those countries. If you have a good economy you worry about buying a car, or a house. If you have no water, food, or future you blame America and feed your hate.
America is so big it is hard not to be an influence. In the new world of globalization every action hurts someone else. I know I don't know much but I wish America would just worry about itself. Iran, Jerusalem, and the middle east will always have problems I dont get why it is our fight too.

I just read my last post... what I meant was, I agree with all of your ramblings. They weren't really ramblings, they were good points. The way I read it just now was that I agreed that you didn't make sense. Man, that Sam is a freaking jerk.

Yeah, I read all about that too.

Thomas Kean, head of the 9/11 Commission and Head Consultant to 'The Path to 9/11' was on 'The Daily Show' last week which made me want to watch the program to draw my own conclusions. He said the same things that have been pointed out since it aired, basically: It is a dramatized documentary, but the pieces are in the right place. Now, he IS a republican. He did help author 585 pages on the failures that lead to 9/11 which John Stewart (progressive) called 'the definitive word on the subject'. Although, the bi-partisan '9/11 Commission Report' has been slammed too, so what do we believe?

Also, Sam Stroman discredits FAIR: (see earlier post bout FAIR).

So, it just boils down to what propaganda you believe in, I guess.
