That's a high ceiling... er... sealing.
We went to a sealing in one of our many fine temples awhile ago. What the sealer said has stayed with me forever, and I thought about it when I was reading the posts about husbands and wives.
The sealer said that some marriages don't work because of selfishness. It's a natural thing to be number one in your life. For twenty to thirty years we are numbero uno. We can put others first if we want to, but it's only temporary, and it's always our choice. When we are married to someone we love, they become number one in our lives. We are ALWAYS number two from that day forward. People don't like to be number two, expecially if they feel it's their choice. One way we fight the natural man is to tell ourselves, "I'm okay being number two, because I REALLY love number one." Sacrificing time, wants, and desires so that our own number one will be happier is what makes a marriage bond stronger, and holier.
When children are brought into the mix, we slip farther down the ladder. We become number 3,4, or 5... in our OWN lives! Why can't we be number one in our own lives? It's OUR life. This kind of thinking leads to pointing fingers, and blame placing. We must realize our life is not our own. It's a hard transition to make, but not when you look at it from the Savior's perspective. He's number 4,556,321,999,541,381,958 and he loves us enough to do it. Doesn't that make you feel good?
