Quote of the Day

"At some point you have to stop shopping around and make the best of things where you are. "

They Printed my Commentique

Sorry for the long, ugly link...but here it is:

http://www.dailyutahchronicle.com/media/storage/paper244/news/2006/08/23/Opinion/Thompsons.Criticism.Of.Conservatives.Is.Petty.And.Irresponsible-2237935.shtml?norewrite200608240009&sourcedomain=www.dailyutahchronicle.com

More politics

Here's a little fun fact for you:

Iraqis are now getting killed at a rate of 40,000 a year, more than three times the average annual kill-rate of the Saddam years.

So if that's the real reason Bush put us in Iraq, to oust Saddam Hussein and free the people from his murderous reign, he has failed. End of story.

And another little tidbit:

Almost 70% of Iraqis believe that the United States is in their country to control their oil.

They are there as witnesses to all, watching the Halliburton trucks being escorted across the oil fields.

What a joke.

First post from the School of Medicine

Sitting here in a library orientation...(snore). So....hi everyone!

Attention, Sam!

I ran across this job that would be perfect for you. It's a graphic design position for Quicksilver doing inside and outside marketing materials and whatnot. Here's the job description. The downside is, it's in Park City. I realize you're probably not up to the commute (who would be?) but I thought I'd pass it along anyway.

Good luck.

Worth the read....

I'm reading Fast Food Nation right now. The author touched on a really intersting point. He noted that in the 1970's more and more women began to leave the home and enter the work force. He also noted that this is one factor that attributed to the increase in fast food consumption. I thought this was very interesting!

Did you know that in 2001 the fast food indusrty made $110 billion? Yuck!!!

This Bugs Me

Since Utah likes to stress "family values" - at least we say we do - I really hate it how companies use that as a marketing ploy.

For example

Macey's - "There's a family feeling at Macey's" - What the heck does that have to do with buying groceries? Do you have better prices? Service? Higher Quality? Isn't that what I should look for in a grocery store? nope, at a grocery store you want a family feeling?

Bear River Mutual Insurance - "Where Values Count" - I'm glad values count. You're an insurance agency. You make huge profits.

Deseret First Credit Union - I know this is for church members but man those commercials are annoying.

Time Traveler...

If you could time travel what time of your life would you go to? Would you just want to experience it again or would you change it if you could?

I would go back to the days when I was young, elementary school young. See what I looked like, how I played. I would play night games with the neighborhood kids in the summer. I would go walk around my elementary school and smell the smell of the cafeteria.

I would go to back and ride stick horses with my cousin at the first golf course we had and hide in all the huts and fish for scary stuff in the ponds and pools, and smell the smell of the coffee drinkers in the morning.

Jake and I's first concert we went to. I would like to see him again on that first date. To see how he looked and how he acted. Also back to his high school, to see what he was like. Experience the infamous dred locks.

I'd go back to high school and see myself. Watch myself.

I'd like to see my grandpa again at the golf course, playing with dogs.

I will always want to reexperience Utah State, everything about it, my roommates, my brother next door, Sammy, school, snowboarding.

I would change how I reacted when I found out I was pregnant. I wouldn't cry out of sadness. I would leap for joy.

Those are just a few.. I wouldnt want to change very many things. I think they are the way they are for a reason.

Secretly..

I secretly like Stevie Wonder's song, "I just called to say I Love You."

By the Way...

The Format show is basically upon us. It is Wednesday night at In The Venue. I can't sleep at night.

We are going.
We are going early.
We will listen.
We will listen enraptured.
We are excited.
We are hopelessly excited.
We will sing.
We will hoarsely sing.

This is the last reminder. We would love people to rock out with at this, our most favorite concert. Come as you are.

Celebrities

Conformity and I were just watching a show about the ridiculous lifestyles of some of the famous people in this world. I can't stand that emphasis on...NOTHING! Who cares about the rock on your finger or the plastic in your boobs. Who cares about your latest car or your fashion adventures. You are a person who doesn't do ANYTHING for society. Your pictures on magazines adorn SUPERMARKET SHELVES where overly bored housewives read about your latest love interest. You embody the shallow, high maintenance, airheaded female that I cannot stand. I don't care about you Ms. Celebrity or your stylish look. You sit in a stylists chair more than you read books, think about world problems, or improve your personal character. You suck.

The Planets Have Aligned

This is it. The event I've been waiting for since I was a young lass. My two favorite bands . . . in Salt Lake . . . in concert . . . TOGETHER.

Come one, come all to the Strung Out/Rancid show!! Get your tickets NOW!

Insightful....

"While our individual salvation is based on our individual obedience,
it is equally important that we understand that we are each an important
and integral part of a family and the highest blessings can be received
only within an eternal family. When families are functioning as designed by
God, the relationships found therein are the most valued of mortality. The
plan of the Father is that family love and companionship will continue into
the eternities. Being one in a family carries a great responsibility of
caring, loving, lifting, and strengthening each member of the family so
that all can righteously endure to the end in mortality and dwell together
throughout eternity. It is not enough just to save ourselves. It is equally
important that parents, brothers, and sisters are saved in our families. If
we return home alone to our Heavenly Father, we will be asked, 'Where
is the rest of the family?' This is why we teach that families are
forever. The eternal nature of an individual becomes the eternal nature of
the family."
Topics: love, eternal families
( Robert D. Hales, "The Eternal Family," Ensign, Nov. 1996, 65)

This is often a fine line that some cross and some never venture to get close. We touched on this a while back when discussing the "cheerleaders" in our lives. After reading this, what are your thoughts?

Weaknesses

Pops and I often discuss this topic, and now I propose it to you...

Should a parent make their weaknesses known to their children?
(I'll share my opinion after hearing all of yours)

So sexy . . . ow!

The new "hipster" magazine/newspaper In Utah This Week is featuring the sexiest people in Salt Lake. Predictably, I am nominating my man to represent, yo. Can you blame me? The man is HOT! :) Here is what I am submitting:

Blue eyes, humor, and a DIY haircut--what's not to love about Aaron Maxfield? This 25-year-old graphic design student packs more smart-ass sarcasm and one-liners than a Dmitri Martin bit. Whether passionately spouting his progressive political views or debating the history and roots of punk rock, the man sticks to his guns with self-assurety and confidence--qualities that define sexy for this nominator. His love of rainbow-colored skate shoes is the cherry on his thrift-store-meets-GQ style, showing an individuality essential to sexiness. He loves his girlfriend and his mommy too; who can resist a man with heart? A baby face and dimples round out his adorable sexiness (a rare combination) and make Aaron the ideal candidate for "Sexy in Salt Lake."

Okay, so the GQ thing is only once in a while. And maybe Dmitri Martin isn't that sarcastic, but give the man his due!

Off we go...

Medical School...its really here...

So much hrad work to get here...and SO MUCH MORE to come! Ironic...an end that is just a means to an end...even a beginning...

Picasso Got It Right

I think Picasso understood how women see theirselves. Distorted.
